One of them is living a normal life amongst us regular humans. The other is here to show us a good time.

Again With the Formative
I got two DVDs recently: Flash Gordon (the groovy Dino DeLarentis 1980s version) and ARK II, the Filmation Saturday morning TV show. I realize that, again in hindsight, I was physically attracted to manly, hairy guys in these shows :
Terry Lester, who went on to many memorable episodes of The $10,000 Pyramid, As the World Turns, and of course, KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park

ARK II always had co-stars I loved.

And of course, Filmation had to get a whole crappy cartoon ready when live production money ran out. Note how much more beefier Commander Jonas becomes when put down on paper (and less Visible Panty Lines too)…

I remember being 100% obsessed with the tunic and tights combos the main characters always wore. Plus I wanted to drive that ARK.
Then we move on to Flash Gordon. At the time this movie came out, I was hanging around Rick G, a minor grunt on the school’s football team, but blond and on the team, just like Flash (played bt Sam J Jones). Sam had chest hair back when it was cool to have chest hair whereas I think Rick shaved, but that didn’t stop me from building FlashRickyGordon fantasies when things were low and slow. Here’s Sam in leather shorts. He stands 6’4″ and once posed naked for Playgirl (yes I tried googling):

But while watching I was startled to remember the leader of the Hawkmen, Brian Blessed, when he came on screen. Brian is (according to IMDB) good friends of Patrick Stewart, borne into a mining family in England and good at boxing, Brian was always a stout character with a booming voice:

I totally forgot how fixated I was on his legs the entire movie (and the leather jock wearing guys in the background). Gratuitous BBlessed pic no. 2:

And, last but not least, I was turned on by Topol, who played Dr Hans Zarkoff. I always go for guys with brains (and a tuft of hair coming out of their collar). Stupid name, great beard:

Anyhoo. Just a look into the psyche of my desires. Feel free to mock.
Celebrity Sprog
How did Nicole Ritchie become pregnant? Yeah yeah yeah, daddy put a seed in her yadda yadda… But why wasn’t she arrested for being able to breed?
No matter, she’ll probably have the child in prison for that little faux pas she had while driving her car high on pills and pot.
“Judge, can I bring my reality TV cameras into the cells?”
“You go right ahead, my little peach!”
Good Things*
The scene: a packed courtroom, droning with low conversation. Media train their lenses at the witness box. The judge hammers his desk.
Judge: Order! ORDER! (crowd settles) We will now hear from the defendant.
A lanky gentlemen in Cathcart work clothes, basic farmer outfit, approaches the front of the courtroom. He sits. He leans in and taps the microphone in front of him, resulting in mild feedback. The mike is live.
Witness: I would like to say a few words here in my own defense.
(he sings)
Good things decompose,
In Onnntarrrioooo!
The courtroom explodes in loud shouts and activity.
*Non-Ontario residents may not get this.
Weekend Update
Holding SharkBoy’s hand when he gets his tattoo! Bike riding and pick-nick on the Island! Wii-ing with Big Brain Academy! Folsom Fair North (expect pictures galore!) in the Sunday sun!
And some laundry. It’s a full life, really.
To leave you I found that Apple seems like it has more documentaries than movies in it’s trailer park. This one caught my attention.
Over on HOWTO wiki: advice for all you lovelorn attending AGITATOR at the Opera House.
Joost
…which is Internetese (like it? My new word meaning “I speak…”) for “I have a very good graphics card”.
I have been playing with this for a couple days now and I am suitably impressed. The channels are growing, slowly, but are diverse enough to keep me interested and coming back. The ads are unobtrusive and for the most part, are able to be hidden or skipped. I am sure if I had some kind of streaming appliance to my TV, this would make the whole experience much more enjoyable. I’m still not sold that people would watch their 2-3 hours of daily TV intake on their computer monitors.
Technically, it’s impressive. In full screen mode, my P4 processor, 700++ of RAM and 256 vid card chugs a bit. I’d hate to see it on Sharkboy’s 1G iMac. Choose video. Pause it when it opens. Watch it in a few moments. The quality is Internety (like it? My other new word meaning “pixelated, but acceptable”) and the sound is good.
The service is invite only right now. I have a couple slots. Interested people should put their names in the comments.
New York City Boy
We’re planning a trip to New York on the Labour Day long weekend with the Photogs (and possibly others?). SharkBoy’s main goal is to see A Chorus Line (hence the R2 dance vid a couple posts back). Photog #2 wants to hit the main kosher camera shops (but they’ll be closed on Saturday, he suspects). Photog #1 and I seem to be coming along for the ride. I’d like to see a couple museums and maybe look for Wii games/accessories. We may do a bar or two in there too… who can say?
I was there back in the late 80s for 2 nights. My boyfriend at the time had to go through Canadian immigrations (you have to have an interview outside Canada to get into Canada) and we did it on the extreme cheap, staying at a University residence in NJ. We did a few shops and took in an off-off Broadway production and some mild sightseeing, so it wasn’t all bureaucracy and paperwork. It was when I got shoved aside by The Italian Stallion himself, Sylvester Stallone, while he was going through a deli we had stopped in so the BF could use the loo.
So… what’s good to do in NYC for a long weekend?
Sentimental Moi
Keeping with the childhood nostalgia theme a few posts back, boingboing.net has a post of Sesame Street segments that creeped people out. While the robot S.A.M. didn’t make me nervous (I strangely wanted to touch the material they used for his mouth) I have to agree with the comment from David Z: that orange singing Carmen made me uncomfortable too.
There was also a cartoon segment of 30 dots that use to make me crazy with anticipation. I think there were at least 3 or 4 different versions and one ending use to make me climb the wall.
Watching Illegally
Over on TMZ.com, my online guilty pleasure, you can view videos of stars doing stupid things in front of their favorite coke dens nightclubs. Perez Hilton wants someone to eat his vomit! Cool!
But they’ve started to close their video borders to the world. A direct link to Joey Fatone jokingly taking a camera from a paparazzi is blocked to us Non-Americans for reasons not explained to us. You get this notice:
THE VIDEO YOU ARE TRYING TO WATCH CANNOT BE VIEWED FROM YOUR CURRENT COUNTRY OR LOCATION.
Well! I am sure they sold that particular video to Entertainment Tonight and require that Canadians can’t see this content until Entertainment Tonight Canada pays for it’s licensing. Or some such idiotic loophole.
Don’t despair, if you go to the video list page, you can still see it. Oh AOL funded sites, how I love your ineptitude!
But it’s happening more and more, on all the network sites. There are proxy sites you can see this stuff on (if you really need to) which make these kinds of blocking just annoying, not effective.
Stupid copyright laws.
“Limp exploration of the liberal impulse”
God, what did Micheal do to piss of Richard Ouzounian? Cut in front of him at Tim Hortons?
Never mind, the other papers are congratulatory.
And so am I! Great job Mike!
