We’re planning a trip to New York on the Labour Day long weekend with the Photogs (and possibly others?). SharkBoy’s main goal is to see A Chorus Line (hence the R2 dance vid a couple posts back). Photog #2 wants to hit the main kosher camera shops (but they’ll be closed on Saturday, he suspects). Photog #1 and I seem to be coming along for the ride. I’d like to see a couple museums and maybe look for Wii games/accessories. We may do a bar or two in there too… who can say?
I was there back in the late 80s for 2 nights. My boyfriend at the time had to go through Canadian immigrations (you have to have an interview outside Canada to get into Canada) and we did it on the extreme cheap, staying at a University residence in NJ. We did a few shops and took in an off-off Broadway production and some mild sightseeing, so it wasn’t all bureaucracy and paperwork. It was when I got shoved aside by The Italian Stallion himself, Sylvester Stallone, while he was going through a deli we had stopped in so the BF could use the loo.
So… what’s good to do in NYC for a long weekend?

Soooo… Not much, really?
Nothing closes in NY for labor day weekend…the camera shops would be open…unlike Canada, the USA capitalizes on holidays by stores being open even LONGER than usual…Natural History Museum is great, almost as good as London’s! Sex and the City Tour is great, 42nd Street is better than a Chorus Line…but both are good. Patty LuPone just opened in Gypsy revival to awesome reviews. The two bearish bars on Christophere Street..Dugout and Ty’s are croweded on Friday night…Eagle on Saturday night…never been to a bar in Chelsea. Construction has begun on the Freedom tower and ground zero…still very somber and quiet there, as if the sounds of the city are kept away. Jekyll and Hydes is a cool place to eat on a Saturday night(near Sheridan Square in the village). I have been to NYC close to 30 times now and still have not gone on a tour of or to the top of the Chrylser Building…one of the best looking buildings ever built(I call in my building, lol). Luckily I had been to the top of the WTC in 97 and 99. There is talk of opening up the statue of liberty again…been closed since 9/11. The gray line night tour of the city is spectacular. Hanging out at South Street Seaport during lunch on Saturdays is fun too…lots of eye candy, shops, Pizzaria Uno’s etc. Mid central Park is always full of shirtless guys on any given day from noon-4.
And the Museum of Natural History… don’t forget that… in all my visits there I still haven’t been.
