I think of fanfic as pimply-faced nerds writing about a lost episode of Buffy (that plays inside their head nightly), not an official, you get a hefty pay-cheque from a legitmate publisher…I would say no to the fanfic.

Every book after Fleming sucked tho – including a couple Fleming books, IMHO.

I’ve seen a lot of creepy robots, but that’s still up there.

I’m looking forward to Hellboy II, um, too. The first one had its moments, and the second looks like it’s bigger and better, especially with Guillermo being able to do whatever he wants after the success of Pan’s Labyrinth.

Evil: We’re going out tonight to make spider shirts for him to sign. Apparently there’s a good bit about spiders in there somewhere. I just do what I’m told.

Sean: I knew that’d get your attention. I “fingerquoted” fanfic because yeah, it’s sanctioned by the foundation but isn’t anything not written by the original author fanfic? I’m liking how it’s mirroring 2008 while set in 1966 (?). Very well done!

Steven: We’ll be wearing big hats!

cb: Judging by the last two headers you’ve had on your blog, I’m not surprised you like the butt panel! Also, I think I’ll like this one because they go back to traditional monster making – latex and pantomime.

I wanna see Hellboy 2 as well- even though the first one royally sucked in my opinion.

And I love that the robot has a removable butt panel.

You’re going to see Sedaris? Me, too!

Save me a spot? Just look for the skinny tan dude with frizzy hair and big, pouty lips.

    Ok…that thing, I swear. lol

Devil May Care is considered an official James Bond book, not fan fiction. The author is backed by the Fleming foundation, I believe.

“Many online and print sources erroneously stated that Devil May Care will be the first new James Bond novel published since 1966. In fact, dozens of full-length Bond novels were published, officially, between 1968 and 2002 by the authors Kingsley Amis (as “Robert Markham”), John Pearson, Christopher Wood, John Gardner, and Raymond Benson. In addition, Charlie Higson and Samantha Weinberg (as “Kate Westbrook”) have been publishing Bond-related novels since 2005. Faulks’ book is, however, the first novel to focus on the adult James Bond, as conceived by Fleming, since 2002’s The Man with the Red Tattoo and, as noted above, it takes place in the time-frame of Fleming’s original novels, the first such book since Amis’ Colonel Sun (discounting the spin-off Young Bond and The Moneypenny Diaries lines).”

WHAT?!??! How did I miss Devil May Care? GOD DAMMIT!

Truth be told, I’ve never read a Bond book by anyone (other than Fleming) that was any good – including the John Gardner ones.

I also just finished David Sedaris’ new book, and thought it was in his top two. Have fun at the signing.
