Indulge Me

If Sir Ridley/EA Games ever ran out of money and he decided to remake any of their past catalogue, I wouldn’t bemoan like a sweaty fanboy at all if they chose to resurrect this old game.

postbear sends me a link to DEAD END THRILLS – a site specific to art in video games. Particular attention to a long forgotten Blade Runner game made back in 1997. Great backstory of how the artwork was recovered from Jazz disks.

I have to say it looks gorgeous for a ’97 game, even if it’s a “click and hunt” game on 4 CDs. They got the atmospheres correct.

I love the art at the bottom. It tells an entirely yet similar story unto itself.

Grape Soda

I’m getting my morning coffee at Starbucks with my camera bag slung over my shoulder. On the strap are two badges I got from my last trip to Disney. One is the Boba Fett “logo” that I was going to give to Sean but after learning he already had it, I deemed it cool too and slapped it on my camera bag.

The other is a faux safety pin holding a Grape Soda bottle top. The Disney/Pixar savvy will recognize it as the pin Carl wears in the movie “Up”, given to him by his first and only love. Start the waterworks, kids.

I’m interrupting this story here to share with you a Disney Wow Moment: While wandering the parks my pins were flying off my camera strap due to the little plastic clasps not holding onto the pin. When I slid my strap to take a picture, the Mickey-shaped backing would fly off and the pin would poke me in the chest. At one point I lost the backing entirely so I went to the nearest pin trading post and asked a Cast Memeber if she had any for sale. She offered to replace it for free, in a heartbeat. I laughed and said “This park will NEVER make any money with that attitude.” We talked about my problem and she suggested their Ikea-like solution: they sell a brass lug nut kind of system that tightens with an Allen Key onto the pin stem. Problem solved! I can whip my bag around without fear! And again, Disney wins over an already happy customer.

Anyway, so I’m waiting in line with these pins on my bag and the Barista spies my bag and says slowly: “Grrrraaaape. Sooooda…?” Obviously asking without asking.

“From the movie Up? It’s the pin…” I start.

“Oh I love that movie!” She exclaims. Then her face darkens. “Oh. That pin will make me cry…”

My job here is done.

…and of course by now, today, you’ve found out that your sister and her family are joining us as part of your birthday and our niece’s Graduation celebrations! HA!

Syl was fantastic through all this, helping out with the accommodations and reservations! Thank you Syl! Love ya!

Still love you, too, kiddo. Race you to Space Mountain!

Challenge #23 – Good Things

23. 5 good things that happened since you started the challenge

1. I would have to say that I’ve started to get back to the gym regularly. That’s good, amirite?
2. I finished Portal 2 and wasn’t disappointed. It wasn’t as “puzzle-y” as the first Portal but it did make me smile!
3. I’ve done the laundry a couple times.
4. I met a Twitterer that I’ve been following for a while IRL. He was nice!
5. I’ve reduced my use of acronyms by 90%

Challenge #22 – 3 Wishes

22. 3 Wishes

Wish #1: I would wish for a career for both SharkBoy and I in Florida, preferably within 30 min driving of the front gates of DisneyWorld. Something we both enjoy and can make enough money off of to sustain a yearly pass, the occasional cruise and a home with a lanai.

Wish #2: I would want everyone in the world to have a decent level of altruism magically injected into their psyche. Just enough so that people see that standing on an escalator is ok IF YOU KEEP TO THE RIGHT. Or that ORGANIZING YOUR PURSE while STANDING AT AN ATM is NOT an IDEAL TIME TO DO SO. Or that other people may not want to HEAR YOUR GODDAMNED CELL PHONE CONVERSATION.

Wish #3: I would want a talking monkey. With a fez. As a friend, not a pet, mind you. And his name would be Sheldrake. The third.

Challenge #20 and #21 – Selective Reasoning

20. Your Dream Wedding

21. Something that stresses you out

I stumbled a bit over the last couple days with the blogging. Work is stressing me out a tad and when I get home I don’t feel like sitting in front of a monitor for any length of time.

And as a rule I avoid talking about work in a public form such as this so there’s your #21 right there.

As for #20, I’ve already had it. I do have a couple regrets about that special day but name me one person who doesn’t? Despite these TINY regrets, I don’t worry on it enough to think I need to have a “do over”.

However, if I were paid vast amounts of money to do it over again, I would definitely have it at the wedding pavilion at the Grand Floridian, Disney World. At sunset. With everyone dressed in Hawaiian shirts. And there would be a churro cart. And monkeys. With cute fezzes. And at midnight we’d all pile into a stolen monorail and do laps around the World, trying to do tuck and rolls into the lobby of the Contemporary Resort. Then we’d do shots on Space Mountain. Maybe break off the speed inhibitors on the Autopia ride and get those suckers really going. And bump the car in front of me. Ha! Wedding day! I can do whatever the fuck I want! Then as the sun came up and the wedding party started to wind down, we’d crash in the little grassy area at the foot of Main Street just as the first day’s guests came into the park.

Challenge #18 – It’s Actually Learned

18. Something you’ve learned

In the last year I learned that when you get kicked, it’s ok to wallow in pain for a bit. But you have to move on.

In the last 6 months I learned that I have a deep desire to live in Florida. I have no clue how to make this dream come true.

In the last 3 months I learned that I can take a pretty snazzy photo. But even more important is that SharkBoy can take a wicked picture too. He has an inbred talent to be able to crop images to make them more dynamic and interesting.

In the last month I learned that I have to ask for a raise. If I’m denied, I feel obligated to seriously start looking for another job.

In the last week I’ve learned that I’m chickenshit. I’m waaay too comfortable with this job I’m in.

In the last 48 hours I learned that at 45yrs old, I don’t lose weight fast enough.

In the last hour I learned that it’s good to come out of a movie at 8pm at night and it’s still light out!
